Eco-activism/M.E.A.T.
Activating my work by placing it into non-traditional contexts has been part of my artistic practice since the late-1980’s. This has included sticker graffiti art installation and stenciling, creating chemical awareness lawn signs, and street performance art. I formed the group M.E.A.T. (Media Enthusiasts Advocating Temerity) as an umbrella organization for these activities. Highlights have included: stickers being seen in Minneapolis, San Francisco, Chicago, NYC, Paris, and Venice; twice being escorted out of the Mall of America by gaggle of security officers as my performance character I.M. Art, twice; performing and singing at the Uptown Art Fair; and installing dozens of alternative chem-lawn signs in the upscale Kenwood neighborhood in Minneapolis (where I lived at the time).
